Behind the Scenes of the Murfreesboro Main Event Project
During my time at Main Event as an Architectural Project Manager, I had the opportunity to participate in several projects, but some projects test you in ways that go far beyond drawings and schedules, that's why I decided to create a Revit model and a render package to showcase my skills and as a portrait for RIVER ROCK ARCHITECTS.
The Main Event in Murfreesboro, TN was one of those projects.
Here are a few of the hoops and loops we had to work through:
Parking Requirements
The zoning ordinance required more parking stalls than the site could physically hold. To resolve this, we applied for a special exception allowing joint use of parking spaces between different uses. After a detailed petition with the Planning Director, we successfully reduced the stall count while meeting city requirements.Landscape Buffer & Grant Conditions.
The City of Murfreesboro required us to preserve a landscaped buffer across Wilkinson Pike, complete with a pergola and benches, to protect viewsheds. They also mandated a 30-foot ROW within that buffer for future connectivity—balancing preservation with long-term growth.Design Restrictions & Adjustments
Certain prototypical brand elements weren’t permitted:
The iconic star had to be removed.
Exterior lighting was limited to white only, eliminating the brand’s signature blue.
“ROLLFAB ALUMABOARD” material required a formal city hearing for approval.
Strict ratios of brick-to-window areas, compatible color schemes, and cornice height variations were mandated to align with the surrounding context.
Acoustic Concerns
The city was especially concerned about outdoor speakers affecting a future apartment complex. After several rounds of sound studies and discussions, we ultimately removed them altogether.
Every challenge was a chance to problem-solve, and in the end, the project moved forward stronger for it. Proud to have been part of bringing this entertainment destination to life.
